Leland Cheung Joins Masthead Venture Partners
Former Rocket Scientist to Join Investment Team
Cambridge, MA - December 12, 2005 - Masthead Venture Partners, a venture capital firm specializing in early-stage technology companies, today announced that it has hired Leland Cheung as an associate. Cheung will play a strong role in the firm's investment effort, from sourcing to execution. He will be conducting research to support deal sourcing, technical and business due diligence of investment opportunities, and the monitoring of portfolio companies.
Masthead Venture Partners invests in early-stage technology companies in the following sectors: information technology, Internet infrastructure and services, communications, and IT-intensive life sciences. Masthead partners combine more than 100 years of successful experience in leading and financing companies from founding through public offerings.
Prior to joining Masthead, Leland was Chief Information Officer for the high profile start-up Space Adventures, Ltd. Located in Arlington, Virginia, Space Adventures is the world's leading space-flight experiences company offering programs including zero-gravity, astronaut training, and reservations on future suborbital spacecraft. It is the only company to have successfully launched private citizens to the International Space Station. At Space Adventures, Leland was responsible for the company's entire IT infrastructure, articulation of its business/market strategy, and resolution of several unusual challenges. He was part of the team that brokered an historic agreement with the Federal Space Agency of the Russian Federation to send private, paying clients to the International Space Station. Leland Cheung holds degrees from Stanford University in both Physics and Economics, as well as a graduate degree in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering.
